- Check if the headphones are fully inserted into the sound jack of the device. If it is not fully inserted, the headphones may not be recognized, and sound may play through the device speakers.
Remove all accessories that may hinder proper connection to the headphones
Sometimes accessories on the device may be preventing the headphones from being fully inserted. So, try removing your case or stickers on the device before plugging in the headphones.
Check the headphone jack and volume keys on the device
Press the Volume key on the side of the device to check if it works. If you have spare headphones, try plugging them into the device to see if they work. If there’s still an issue, check for any damage by flashing a light on the headphone jack of the device.
Note:
- Volume key and headphone jack locations may vary depending on the device model.
About Sound mode
In Sound mode, Ringtone and Notification sounds come from both the headphones and the speaker. If you want the sound to come only from the headphones, change your Sound mode by following the steps below.

How to optimize your sound experience with Galaxy Buds+
Whether you are in the middle of a crowded flea market or listening to a podcast you like, your earbuds will have an audio setting that’s perfect for you. Check out a variety of ways to personalize the sound options on your Galaxy Buds or Buds+ to get a better experience.
Before moving ahead with the recommendations and proceeding with the below steps, I would suggest ensuring that all devices’ software and related apps are updated to their latest version.
Sound settings for the Galaxy Buds and Buds+
Once your earbuds are connected to the Galaxy Wearable app, on the app’s Home screen you can select from six different equalizers presets and enjoy the same music with a different and unique sound. Drag the slider to change the settings from Normal, Bass Boost, Soft, Dynamic, Clear or Treble boost. You can simply try out the options to find the most suitable sound mode that fits you at the moment.
Note: The Equalizer is also available when you are using the Buds+ app on an iPhone 7 or later with iOS 10 or higher.
Option 1. Control the ambient sound
It is important to have an option to hear your surroundings clearly while you are listening to music outdoors, so you can quickly detect any potentially dangerous situations.
Step 1. Launch the Galaxy Wearable app on your mobile device.
Step 2. Switch ON the Ambient sound.
Step 3. Drag the adjustment bar to adjust the ambient sound volume.
If you want to add extra volume, you can change settings on Labs to get the ambient sound volume to Extra high.
Step 4. Swipe to and tap on Labs > Switch ON the Extra-high ambient volume.

Option 2. Automatic sound switching
There’s time to time you may only want to wear one earbud in case someone needs to speak with you. Automatic sound switching on Galaxy Buds+ supports your sound settings with flexibility. The good news about using automatic sound switching is there are no settings to adjust. The Galaxy Buds+ will automatically switch the sound output from mono to stereo, based on how many earbuds are placed in the charging case. When you’re using one earbud, make sure to place the other earbud in the charging case to avoid losing it and prevent battery drain.
Note: Device screenshots and menu may vary depending on the device model and software version.
Steps to play sound in both speakers and solve mute problems
While using your Galaxy device, you may encounter some sound issues like hearing sound from only one speaker or noticing that alarms, media volume or ringtones are muted. You can fix all these sound problems by following the steps below.

Sound is partially audible, except for calls when the left/right sound balance on “Hearing enhancements” features is enabled. If the control bar for adjusting the left/right sound balance is currently set to the far left or right, then media sound will emerge from only one speaker.
Please adjust the control bar for proper sound with the following steps:
Step 1. Enter device settings and click “Accessibility”.
Step 2. Select “Hearing enhancements”.
Step 3. Adjust “Left/right sound balance”.
All sounds, including alarm, media volume and ringtone from speakers are muted
Smartphones, watches, and Galaxy wearable apps on mobile devices have a mute option, so verify that the “Mute all sounds” toggle button is off:

Before heading to the Samsung Service Center with your Galaxy Watch Active2, you may consider a list of suggestions to fix the problem in the following order.
Before moving ahead with the recommendations and proceeding with the below steps, I would suggest ensuring that all devices’ software and related apps are updated to their latest version.

Option 1. Restart the devices, and be sure they are charged
Restarting your watch and headphones could solve the problem of poor audio quality.
- If your watch is connected to a phone, restart the phone.
- Once the devices are powered back on again, check if they needed to be additionally charged.
Note: If the battery is not critically low, the audio quality may sound choppy, or make weird noises.
Option 2. Move the devices closer together
You may try testing by moving the devices closer if the audio quality improves in a better way.
- The watch and headphones must be within Bluetooth connection range (10 m).
The distance may vary depending on the environment the devices are used in and if there are obstacles, such as metals, walls, and electrical equipment between the devices. - Make sure there aren’t any other Bluetooth devices being connected at the same time.
Other tips to improve sound quality:
- Wireless network services may be disabled due to issues with the network of the service provider. Make sure to keep the devices away from electromagnetic waves.
- Take note that the distance may vary depending on the environment the devices are being used in.

If the issues do not appear while in Safe mode, the problem is caused by a downloaded app, and that app should be uninstalled.
Note: If the issue is gone in Safe mode: One of your recently downloaded apps was likely the cause of the problem. Proceed to uninstall the app you downloaded just before your phone or tablet began having the issue.
If the issue still exists: Downloaded apps may not be the cause of the problem. You may need to reset the phone to the factory setting.
