Samsung with the US firm looking to improve its semiconductor chips

Korean amalgamated with California-based software company Silicon Frontline Technology.

Reportedly Samsung has amalgamated with San Jose, which is the California-based software company Silicon Frontline Technology. In order to enhance its semiconductor chips. The Korean big giant is looking for assistance from its new American partner intended to improve its yield rates.

Additionally, Samsung has had issues with semiconductor yield rates since 5nm solutions. Although, things subsequently become worse as advanced to 4nm and 3nm chips. At one point in time, the company’s yield rate for 3nm solutions was reported as 20 percent. It indicates that only 20 chips out of 100 are able to meet the required quality standards. As a result of this trouble, it loses its major customer Qualcomm to competitor TSMC. The Korean beast also falls down in the global semiconductor industry.

Instead of setbacks, Samsung starts to begin 3nm production ahead of TSMC. Also, it now seeking to build on the basis of advantage in order to rise again. Although, the yield rate is going to be critical for that. Therefore Silicon Frontline Technology will definitely help the Korean tech firm to achieve its goal. Since the American firm has expertise in semiconductor design and verification solutions. So it will help Samsung in chip manufacturing processes, that includes the front-end process.

As per the Korean media, Silicon Frontline Technology will provide a chip solution qualification evaluation and electrostatic discharge (ESD) prevention technology to Samsung. While ESD is a prime cause of defects in semiconductor chips, that results in a decrease in yield rates. It is ascertained due to friction between equipment and metal during manufacturing. Whereas, preventing or decreasing ESD supports improving the yield rates, since they have lesser manufacturing defects.

Samsung expands its partnership with Silicon Frontline Technology

Notably, this is not the first time when Samsung working closely with Silicon Frontline Technology. Also, the Korean firm earlier applied to work with the tech company in chip design and production process in the past as well. And whereby it obtained “satisfactory results,” this has been revealed by the source who is aware of the same. Hence, it’s now expanding its partnership with the American firm to facilitate its semiconductor solutions.

If this partnership helps Samsung helps to achieve its motive and supports it where it intended to be, in the semiconductor industry. It certainly regains a few of its customers as well. As previously disclosed, Qualcomm has switched to TSMC for the production of the newly launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. On the other hand, Nvidia has also entrusted the Taiwanese firm for making its al new RTX40 series GPUs. While Samsung expected to leverage its upper hand over TSMC in the 3nm process node to regain the lost ground. Therefore, it now remains to be seen if the South Korean tech giant can able to turn things quickly before its competitor catches up to it.
