According to Counterpoint Research’s latest global market report, the shipments of Samsung Electronics’ 5G-enabled smartphones and foldable phones increased.
The sale figure has only achieved an increment of 2% year-on-year in the third quarter of this year. In the list, the Samsung Galaxy Z flip/Z fold shipments and 5G smartphones increased by 2 times and 27%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Due to the lack of sales of the Galaxy S22 Series, the revenue decreased by 4% in the same period last year, and its global smartphone market share decreased by 0.2%.
According to market research firm Omdia, the ASP of Samsung Electronics and Apple’s smartphones was $383 (about 480,000 won) and $959 (about 1.22 million won), respectively, as of the second quarter.
Counterpoint Research analyst Hamit Singh Wallia said, “As Apple’s revenue and ASP increased, global smartphone shipments also increased at the same time.”
Last year, the most-shipped model in the global smartphone market was the Galaxy A12, with a total of 51.8 million units supplied. Among the top 10 models, Samsung Electronics’ models were only the Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A02 (18.3 million units). Most of the seats were filled by Apple’s flagship models from iPhone 11 to 13.
According to DSCC, a display market research firm, global foldable phone shipments this year are expected to exceed 12.5 million units. This is an increase from the previous year, which was less than 10 million units. However, it is limited to some regions such as Korea and Europe.
