As teased earlier, Google Maps for Wear OS has now finally supported turn-by-turn navigation in LTE watches. This is achieved without requiring a paired phone for LTE.
As per the update that has been followed last week’s announcement, Google Maps for Wear OS is now started rolling out independent navigation support. While the steps, in order to do this are, Open Maps and head toward Settings at the bottom. While the “Launch Mode” is a very new menu between “Auto-launch” and “Terms of Service.”
Notably, the Navigation will be launched on Automatic or Watch only. On the other hand, the option appears on both Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE-only devices respectively. Since it’s a server-side update, and hence does not require an app to update.
Stand-alone navigation
Also, as per the recent update, stand-alone navigation is particularly available “if you have an LTE-enabled watch, or your watch is connected to the internet via WiFi.”
Moreover, Google assumes this a being “especially helpful when you’re out for a run or ride and have left your phone behind but want to take a detour or need help finding your way home.”
Moving ahead, this is a good feature, especially for those that purchased LTE watches. It comes in Pixel Watch or Galaxy Watch 5 and is subscribed in order to accompany cellular plans.

- Open Maps from your watch.
- Use the voice or keyboard tool to input your destination. You can also tap the map to view your location.
- Select your mode of transportation. From here, you can view your ETA.
- Start your walk, bicycle, or car trip.
