Samsung in its latest Galaxy S23 lineup promotion uses the Genshin game to promote the mobile game performance. In China, Samsung has recently started promoting the ‘Genshin’, a role-playing game (RPG) for Galaxy S23 Series in China’s Hoyo Bus. We also saw several commercials featuring Genshin Impact in the Galaxy S23’s advertising video.
On February 17, Samsung released a promotional video titled ‘Game with Backbone’ on YouTube, showing Changbin, a member of the group Stray Kids, playing Genshin Impact on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The same applies to the S23 pre-booking advertisement that KT introduced earlier. Soccer player Lee Kang-in, who appeared as a promotional model, takes out a Galaxy S23 Ultra from a cafe and plays a game while answering the phone. The game played in this scene is also Genshin.
Here’s the reason why Samsung promoting the Genshin game with S23 Series
Last year, Samsung faced several controversies about GOS (Game Optimizing Service) which was released at the time of the previous generation device galaxy S22 release.
The GOS is a function that artificially lowers performance, such as lowering the screen resolution by adjusting the GPU (graphics processing unit) performance when running games that require high-performance calculation and reducing the computational burden to prevent overheating of the smartphone.
At the time of the release of the S22, there was no way for consumers to release the GOS in a normal way, which caused great opposition from high-performance mobile game users.
Once the problem started occurring several YouTubers and IT media reported the lack of performance of S22 while gaming and Genshin Impact was one of the games often used as a performance comparison measure with other devices.

Also, Genshin Impact worked well in terms of graphics comparable to PC and console games, making it perfect for testing device performance. It is observed that Samsung Electronics’ intensive use of Genshin Impact in its S23 marketing is a strategy to reverse its image by targeting gamers who turned their backs at the time of the GOS controversy.
This is not the first time Samsung promoting its product with Hoyo Bus. Earlier, the company collaborated on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 Genshin Special Edition and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro Genshin Impact Special Edition. Both products were sold out within 14 minutes of limited sales.
