Android Auto has carried a mediocre limitation that restricts Google Maps from being opened on the connected phone so far. Fortunately, the company has taken this concern into consideration and it appears to be changing now.
Notably, some users have observed in the last few days recent updates to Google Maps for Android. Alongside, the Android Auto app has unlocked support, so that users can able to use Maps on phones simultaneously with the same. Therefore, it going to be a big change for the platform, whereby Maps on the phone has always displayed an error message, saying that the app cannot be opened while Android Auto is running.
As this has been certainly an unpleasant experience for anyone to uses Android Auto’s version of Maps, as this would be restricted on the phone. For example, the phone app displayed more data about destinations, and also user-created lists of locations. While the Android Auto version does not.
Talking about the update then it doesn’t roll out specifically widely. But, as of now, only a handful of users were able to report the change. Through which they can able to open Google Maps while Android Auto is running in a Reddit thread. The change may be reflected in Google Maps v11.67.0701. Where it seems to perform individually irrespective of the Android Auto app version.
In spite of the update, some users still not able to see the change
On the other hand, despite having that updated version of Maps installed. Some of the users still report since the app blocked them from opening. While suggesting it may be a bug, as it’s the first time this has happened. Although, it is also to be believed that this may be intentional.
Whereas, in order to imitate the functionality, we were able to open Maps while Android Auto was running. We were able to do so without any issues on Maps v11.67.0702 on a Pixel 7 Pro.
