On March 15, 2023, the South Korean tech giant Samsung officially confirmed that the company plans to build five cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing lines in a candidate site for a 2.15 million pyeong (7.1 million ㎡) national industrial complex in Yongin, (Namsa-eup) Gyeonggi-do.
This will be one of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s long-cherished projects. Samsung Electronics is looking to build five advanced system semiconductor manufacturing lines here.
A ‘Samsung Semiconductor Mega Cluster’ is planned to connect Giheung (Yongin), Hwaseong, and Pyeongtaek, which were existing semiconductor production complexes. The government also plans to attract 300 trillion won of private investment in the metropolitan area over the next 20 years to create the world’s largest high-tech system semiconductor cluster.
By 2042, the company aims to create the world’s largest high-tech system semiconductor cluster based on a single complex in Gyeonggi-do with an investment of 300 trillion won. The tech giant will also come up to 150 companies.
