Google afresh released the second beta for the upcoming Android 13 QPR3 release coming June. But parallelly at the same time, this new release doesn’t bring much more in terms of new features and improvements. Since its Android 13 final release, it primarily focuses on stability and bug-fixing alterations.
Apparently, after booting up Android 13 QPR3 Beta 2 on a Pixel 6, there’s a showcase of a new “enhanced PIN privacy” toggle under Settings > Security & privacy > Device lock. Also, the elaboration for this toggle reads “disable animations while entering the PIN.” It means the animation that usually plays on tapping any number on the keyboard won’t be shown. Therefore, it will become quite difficult for a shoulder surfer in the event to watch you enter your PIN. The same because the Android lock screen won’t show a visual cue for each number that has to be tapped.
It is worth noting that shoulder surfing is a common social engineering attack that is used to obtain access to users’ devices. Since many people enter their PINs in public places. In addition to this, The Wall Street Journal reveals how shoulder surface could gain almost complete access to a user’s Apple or Google Account. This is simply by analyzing their phone’s unlock code and further their device.

Moreover, enhanced PIN privacy is not only a new lock screen-related improvement featured in Android 14. Also, blotched a new feature called “auto-confirm correct PIN.” The same enables you to bypass tapping enter in order to unlock your phone. While the feature does not come to users yet. Dissimilar to the new improved PIN privacy toggle that appears in Android 13 QPR3 Beta 2. Now, it is expected that this new PIN-enhanced PIN privacy toggle will surely appear in the forthcoming Android 14 preview release, certainly the Android 14 Beta 1. This probably going to come in early April.
