As per the piece of information, the new foldable phone that Samsung Electronics will introduce in the second half of the year will be packed with LG Energy Solution batteries. It is worth noting, LG being the foldable batteries supplier since 2021. Consecutively, this is the third year in a row.
This has been revealed by Samsung Electronics’ MX division (mobile). The Korean tech giant will tend to use battery cells provided by LG Energy Solution for foldable phones such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Nevertheless, this is not the first time Samsung has used LG Energy Solution batteries. Since 2019, its battery has been installed on the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. While now it is broadly used in a wide range including the Galaxy S and entry-level models.
Additionally, the battery protection circuit, as well as packaging, were handled by ITM Semiconductor. The battery cell will be developed in the Nanjing plant and then deport to ITM Semiconductor’s local factory in Vietnam. Also, the protection circuits will be assembled and then transfer to Samsung Electronics’ smartphone factory.
The foldable phone batteries are classified into primary and secondary. The reason is its foldable screen, thus the large capacity and small capacity batteries are required individually. Concurrently, the capacity is not much vary with respect to its previous models. It indicates that the body weight, thickness, and screen size will not change much.
Samsung SDI and ATL of China also fulfill the battery Supply
Because the battery consumes a huge area in a smartphone with a single component. Therefore, by seeing the shape, size, and capacity it is easy to gauge the design of the smartphone experts. For instance, considering the Apple iPhone, many of its components comprising application processor and memory are assembled in an “I” shape. Its tablets and laptops follow the same trend.
Alternatively, the new Galaxy foldable battery supply is predicted to be catered by Samsung SDI and ATL of China as well. Whereas, for some variants, China’s BYD is also supplying batteries. Moving ahead, the battery pricing of the most recent smartphones is predicted to be in the range of 10~15 dollars respectively.
