According to the latest South Korean media report, the chairman of BOE in China did not visit Samsung Electronics after visiting Korea in April 2023. The reason behind this is the assumption of BOE’s recent patent lawsuit against Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display in China.
Back last year, Samsung Display filed a patent infringement investigation targeting BOE with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) for repair organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) imported and sold in the US.
The latest report from The Elec claims that BOE Chairman Chen Yanshun visited Korea last month, but returned to China without visiting Samsung Electronics. When business conditions are not as good as in recent years, representatives of parts manufacturers inquire about business plans of customers and reflect them in their quantity plans accordingly. Although Samsung Electronics’ TV division is reducing BOE’s LCD TV panel shipments, Samsung Electronics is still an important customer for BOE.
BOE’s action comes after Samsung Display in December filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission (ITC) against US parts wholesalers over their use of display parts and panels that the Korean display maker claimed infringed on its sophisticated OLED patents, including one on its technology called Diamond Pixel.
BOE filed a patent lawsuit with the Chongqing First Intermediate People’s Court against Samsung Electronics and others. Because of this, the relationship between Samsung and BOE has become strained, and the explanation in the industry is that Chairman Chun did not visit Samsung Electronics or could not.
