Samsung Electronics has reportedly started making the alternative of ChatGPT. The company is now focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) tool development. The South Korean tech giant began the development of its own large-scale language model (LLM) AI in earnest at the beginning of this month, led by Samsung Research, a research and development organization, and is investing related manpower and resources with the goal of completing the development of the initial version at the end of July.
Multiple Samsung Electronics officials said, “All other in-house software development organizations have been restricted from using GPUs (graphics processing units).” GPUs are essential for super-giant AI to learn human language and data, and Samsung Electronics invested all of its GPU resources into AI development in order to complete the development within two months.
Recently, Samsung banned using ChatGPT in the office. After discovering that staff uploaded sensitive code to ChatGPT, Samsung Electronics Co. is barring employees from using the AI chatbot and other generative AI tools. The document highlights that Samsung is concerned that data transmitted to AI platforms like these, including Google Bard and Bing, is stored on external servers. This makes the data difficult to retrieve and delete, meaning it could end up being disclosed to other users.
Meanwhile, according to the internal report, Samsung’s own ChatGPT alternative is planned to be used for in-house tasks such as software development, document summarization and translation.
