On February 12, 2024, Samsung released a press release and confirmed that Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited Seremban, Malaysia on February 9 as his first overseas business trip this year and inspected the battery business.

Samsung SDI , which is currently operating Factory 1, is building Factory 2 starting in 2022 to respond to the demand for cylindrical batteries that will grow significantly in the future.

Reportedly, the second Factory will be built with an investment of 1.7 trillion won, is scheduled to be completed in 2025 , and plans to mass produce ‘PRiMX 21700’ circular batteries starting in 2024.

Samsung SDI achieved its highest-ever performance in 2023, achieving sales of 22.7 trillion won and an operating profit of 1.6 trillion won, but it has recently been affected by the slowdown in the growth of the global market for power tools and electric vehicles.
