As per The Elec report, the South Korean tech giant Samsung will increase joint venture (JDM) smartphone production through Chinese companies by 23 million units this year from 44 million to 67 million units. Samsung Electronics’ overall smartphone production plan for this year also increased by 17 million units (253 million units to 270 million units).
In October last year, Samsung set a plan to produce 253 million smartphones by 2024. Of the 253 million units, JDM production through Chinese companies was 44 million units.
Compared to Samsung Electronics’ overall smartphone production plan of 270 million units this year, the JDM volume of 67 million units corresponds to 25%. Until 2019, Samsung Electronics’ ODM smartphone share was only 6-7%, but it has steadily increased since then.
