As per the latest report from the Samsung Electronics second-quarter smartphone and tablet production volume is expected to exceed the original management plan by 3%.

Production in the first quarter of last year exceeded the management plan by 22%. It is projected to be 13% above the management plan for the entire first half of the year.

In the second quarter, Samsung Electronics produced 4,990 smartphones and tablets. The estimated production is expected to reach 10,000 units. Samsung shares its production plans with major parts partners and supplies key components.

The production plan of 49.9 million units for the second quarter is 3% higher than the original management plan of 48.3 million units. This figure excludes models produced by joint venture manufacturing (JDM), such as those by China’s Wingtech.

In the first quarter, Samsung Electronics has already produced 64.5 million smartphones and tablets, 22% more than the original management plan (52.9 million units). Adding the first quarter figures and the second quarter projections, the expected first half production is 114.4 million units. This figure is 13% higher than the management plan (101.2 million units).

An official from the parts industry said, “Samsung Electronics’ smartphone division performed well in the first half of the year, especially the first quarter,” and added, “The smartphone market rally is over, so there is no need to unreasonably increase shipments of the low-priced Galaxy A series in the third quarter.” Another official said, “Sales of new foldable phones may be a variable in the third quarter.”

Samsung Electronics’ smartphone division achieved sales of 33.53 trillion won and operating profit of 3.51 trillion won in the first quarter, led by the Galaxy S24 series. The operating profit margin was 10.5%. The second quarter performance forecast by securities companies is 29 trillion won in sales and 2.8 trillion won in operating profit.
