Recently, in an unpacked event of Samsungs flagships foldable, alongside, the company unveiled its latest smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro. The all-new Watch5 and its Pro variant added up with a sensor that can measure body temperature, now that’s something that can beat Apple Watch.
Samsung’s this smart steps into the general health and wellness territory make their position more concrete and deeper into wearables. The same brought massive success to Apple and apparently the bests smartwatch maker in terms of high-end capabilities.
Availability and Price tag
Noticeably the Watch5 going to be available on Aug. 26, it starts with the price tag of $279 with Bluetooth only. Whereas the LTE version will cost $329. Meanwhile talking about Watch5 Pro, will start at $449 with Bluetooth only at $499 with LTE. Also, the Watch5 will come with two available watch face sizes: 40mm and 44mm. On the other hand, the Watch5 Pro will be available with a larger 45mm face.
Moving ahead, the Apple Watch Series 7 starts at $399 and here the user can make the choices out of two. These are available with either 41mm or 45mm watch faces. The Apple Watch SE starts at $279 and features a 40mm or 44mm watch face.
Infrared temperature sensor
Here key differentiator present in the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro which makes them stand out. The ability to check temperature via an infrared temperature sensor. And Samsung claims that the sensor is accurate even when you’re going through surroundings changes. Therefore, if you go from an air-conditioned room to sweltering outdoors, the sensor should still be able to measure your accurate temperature and not the ambient temperature.
It has been noticed that Samsung pairs the temperature reader with a so-called BioActive sensor. And the same can track your heart rate, blood oxygen level, and stress levels. Distinguishably, Apple also offers heart rate and blood oxygen sensors on the Apple Watch.
Talking about blood oxygen sensors, which seems a bit useless. And the reason behind the same is that they are not specifically good to understand overall health like heart rate sensors.
Whereas at the same time the temperature sensor could be a big help. Considering the physical activities, like if I’m out for a run or lifting weights, and I find myself feeling tired more quickly than usual. So it could recognise the body temperature instantly.
Samsung also says that the combination of the watch’s sensors allows users to monitor various fitness activities, including post-workout and rest periods. So these smartwatches can help a lot in determining the overall health. The Watch5 and Watch5 Pro also come with Samsung’s Body Composition measurement tool. The same is available in Watch4, the tool gives you a look at your body mass index (BMI), skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate (BMR), and more.
Although, none of those can diagnose any potential illnesses, and at the same time it’s unclear how you should even use this information. Considering BMI for example then it has been criticized for not providing an accurate reflection of a person’s health.
Even though, both watches can track sleep and provide you with a score. It determines your sleep stage at certain points of the night and that can check heart rate and temperature; it can also detect snoring.
